Help for Your New Year’s Resolutions

Happy New Year!

Personally, I don’t do resolutions on New Year’s Day. I do them whenever it occurs to me that I need to strengthen my resolve in some area. If it just happens to occur to me on January 1st, then that is when I do it.

This year, it occurs to me that I need to resolve to make more money on this site. Get Along Husband needs TMJ treatment, and I need some sexy boots. To that end, and for the sake of your own resolutions, allow me to suggest these titles:

You Need a Budget. Oh, yes you do! No matter what your income or debt level, you really do need a budget. January 1st is a fantastic time to start one, don’t you think? I’m excited about laying out our yearly goals! So is my friend and reader Ashley, who emailed me with this glowing report:

I just wanted to tell you that we’ve been using YNAB now for a little over a month and it has changed. my. life…

…this software totally transformed how we deal with our money. We have felt more in control, less stressed, more optimistic about our ability to get on track financially… It’s just been completely freeing to use it. I actually enjoy checking in to enter transactions and stuff.

I know there are a lot of great programs out there, but I’m glad I heard about this one and I probably only even gave it a shot because I know I can trust your advice! :)

Remember when I reviewed 28 Days to Hope for Your Home? Well, Dana White has written a companion e-book called Drowning in Clutter? (Don’t Grab a Floatie! Drain the Ocean!). I haven’t read it yet, but I do read her blog and know her well enough to be certain that this book is every bit as entertaining as it is useful. You can purchase both for only $4 through January 2nd.

Maybe your resolution is to eat out less often this year. (Goes great with money resolutions!) The best way I’ve found to make that happen is to have dinner waiting for you when you finally start to have that “don’t wanna cook” feeling around 5:00 p.m. Crock On is a new cookbook written by one of my favorite bloggers EVAH! Stacy, at Stacy Makes Cents, never publishes a yucky recipe. I know, because I have tried many of them. I even had the pleasure of “reviewing” the Chili Pork Wraps on page 16. It was good. Yup.

How about just some all around discipline? I’m on Day 2, and I already feel like I might get something done in the next few weeks!

And finally, I think most homeschoolers are, this very morning, resolving to get back to teaching their children a little more diligently. December seems to suck all the life out of lessons, doesn’t it? Thank God, homeschooling is about so much MORE than ABC’s and history lessons! Teach Them Diligently knows that, and is (in my humble opinion) the best homeschool convention because of it. Sign up today! If you’re feeling overwhelmed with the planning side of it, you can learn more about hotel options here, and children’s programs here.

  1. Ha! Sexy boots! I think my goal today is to go find some of those. (Since we got some Christmas money and I’ve been trekking through the Ohio snow in a pair of boat shoes…)
I’m going to look into that cookbook, for sure. I love my crockpot! Thanks for the tips!

  2. I just got the Crock On cookbook because I am drowning (drowning!) with the amount of food production/preparation that must take place at this house! Thanks for the suggestion!
