Birdcage Press Games (And a Giveaway!)

bybWe love to play games during our lessons. While I have been known to just get out random game boards or card games and make up new rules to suit our needs (addition and subtraction snakes and ladders!), sometimes it’s a lot more satisfying to have the games already made up for us.

Birdcage Press has an impressive inventory of educational card and board games, from which they sent me two beautiful sets of playing cards. Birdcage Press also has digital products available for download from iTunes.

We’ve been playing with Backyard Birds, and we’re getting pretty good at identifying the birds when we see them in real life, too! Each deck of playing cards comes with an information booklet and rules for playing several card games with them. The cards are as much fun to just look at as they are to play games with, and the boys get them out often during their quiet time activities.

We’ve also received the Renaissance Artists card game, but we haven’t really played with it much. We’ve spent some time looking at them and reading the information, though. They are just beautiful! There are a lot of pictures on these cards that I’ve never even seen before. I am, after all, just a hillbilly. I don’t know nuthin’ about no high art…yet.

And I never commented on your “knocking on the door” post, but I could completely identify. Sometimes it seems that there are so many battles to fight… I mean, people are already going to be “wondering” about you just because you homeschool, let alone everything ELSE “crazy” that we do.

  • Pati Smith February 23, 2012, 12:46 pm

I’d love either set, but my nature-loving 10 yo would probably prefer the Backyard Birds!
