The Bible in 90 Days–I Did It!

by Cindy on March 31, 2010

I did it! At the beginning of the year, I posted that I was going to join Mom’s Toolbox in reading the Bible in 90 days. I wasn’t sure how I’d find time, and I wasn’t really sure I’d succeed. I don’t often stick to my most ambitious plans, and that seemed pretty ambitious to me! Here we are at March 31st, the last day of scheduled reading! We had a week of sickness that almost derailed me. I was 6 days behind on Saturday. God has blessed me with a husband who doesn’t mind an un-vacuumed floor, so I was able to catch up by ignoring some housework.

I’m thrilled to finally be a member of that very small group of people who have read the Bible without skipping some of the minor prophets and the genealogies. Or, for that matter, all that stuff about the sacrifices, temple measurements, and just how much gold the temple contained. While considering myself to be Biblically literate, I had skipped over a huge portion of scripture because it was “boring”. Now I’ve found out that all that boring stuff is essential to understanding the rest of the Book! Thank God for his Word! I plan to do this at least once a year from now on! It really is a wonderful way to soak in the Bible.

I wanted to find some way of marking this occasion (because anytime I actually finish something, it’s a special occasion), but I didn’t really have any extra money in the budget for commemorative trinkets. A few days before I finished my whirlwind tour of the greatest story every told, I won a sweet little envelope necklace from Looka Jewelry at PJ Mommy. Instead of doing what a good daughter would do, and using this for my mother’s birthday gift, I had it inscribed with “3-31-10 B90D”. It’s not the most elegant inscription in the world, but I thought it was appropriate to commemorate the day I finished reading God’s love note to the world–and to me!

Thanks so much, Mom’s Toolbox, for the support! I didn’t participate in the Twitter conversations a lot because of scheduling conflicts, and I often forgot to check in, but I was reading your words of encouragement!

Congratulations on finishing! :-) This was such a great experience for me, too. Reading all the “boring stuff” definitely turned out to be more important than I ever thought!

I am so very excited for you.. and also excited about the gift you ordered for yourself. What a fantastic momento! I have a gold Bible charm I bought for myself when I completed my Bible in 90 Days reading the first time.. and seeing it it makes me smile every single time. :)

I am so glad you decided to join us.. and even more proud of you for finishing! Well done!!!
